British Science Week
We have had an amazing first week back in school celebrating British Science Week. We began the week with making hovercrafts from a live lesson taught by a real scientist. This helped us to further our understanding of forces particularly friction and surface area. We tested our hovercrafts in a mini competition in class and it was a blast!
On Tuesday, we took part in an experiment to develop our observational skills. This involved mixing milk, food colouring and soap and then observing the colours and patterns created whilst thinking of why these reactions were taking place.
Our next exciting Science activity will have your hearts racing as it did ours! Can you believe that we actually worked with real hearts, lamb hearts? Taking inspiration from Leonardo da Vinci, we used our observational skills to replicate the work of this iconic genius. Take a look at our fabulous creations.
We even managed to fit in some STEM activities to complete our Science week. We used toothpicks and marshmallows to make 2d and 3d shapes and had to use our problem-solving skills to strengthen our models.
This led nicely to our final activity with a DT challenge which was to create a structure to support a head (ball) using 10 sheets of A4 paper and 1 metre of Sellotape. The winning structure had to be the highest which could support the ball for longer than 10 seconds. Take a look at our attempts. We had great fun!
